GREG FLEET: THAI DIE (SYDNEY COMEDY FESTIVAL, 24/10/1999)

Am I supposed to be laughing at this?? This was all I could think of whilst watching this masterpiece. There I said it. There’s no other way to describe it. Pure farking genius. And the strange thing is, it’s true.

From seeing a few of Fleety’s shows, this could only happen to him. In 1989 Fleety set off for an adventure in Thailand.

Its hard to describe without giving too much away (YOU MUST SEE THIS SHOW!!) But anything that involves a card game and a naïve Australian in Thailand cannot end well.

A strong point in Fleety’s routines is his ability to allow the audience to empathise with him on his journey. He goes into such detail that at times you actually feel like your right there, wanting to yell at him for being so stupid.

Fleety is a god, and that’s a bit of an understatement. In this show he seamlessly combines humour and emotional turmoil to create a thought provoking piece.

EDIT 2018: Had the luxury of seeing this show again a few years ago. Still holds up. You can still buy the DVD from JBHIFI  HERE.  Could also be floating around various pages on Netflix. The book has also since been republished. It’s hard to find now but well worth the read.  I was lucky enough to still have my 1st edition (the passport size one). Was fortunate enough to get it signed by the legend himself.
